Because we could all use a little love…

Literally just a few moments ago I logged into my Tumblr to find my feed flooded with re-posts from a young lady who had written a suicide note on her Tumblr today. From my current understanding, she has been rushed to the hospital with a recovery (thankfully) on the horizon. I sat reading her post and was in tears by the time I’d reached the second paragraph. I couldn’t believe that here was this young girl, with a whole life ahead of her, and she was already willing to give up. Why? Because she felt unloved. Because she felt betrayed by her “friends” and peers. Because someone decided to treat her like less than she deserved.

I was inspired to make the above image. Love it or hate it I don’t care. I made it to show a point. To share a little message that far too many of us forget. We get caught up in our stupid arguments with people over stupid things. We judge too easily. We often treat others poorly for personal gain. We are all guilty of it in some way or another. But I feel like it’s important to share this ideal with people. I hope this reaches more people than just those following my Tumblr. t.

The world can be cruel. People can be cruel. Those of you closer to my age (early 20’s) could probably sit for hours and tell stories of how someone impacted us in a negative way when we were younger. Those of you are in the middle of your teenage years could probably tell many stories of their own about how their peers have bullied or hurt them. The truth is, it’s bigger than just bullying. It’s bigger than “kids just being kids”. Kids are cruel, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Lives don’t have to be ruined before they’ve even begun. A change can be made. But it’s not up to just me or just you alone. It’s up to everyone as a whole. It’s up to us all as a society to stand up and make a difference in the lives of others.

I’ve seen far too many stories in the news lately of young people killing themselves because they were bullied to the point that they lost complete touch with the world. They lost themselves and they lost their lives. All because another human being mistreated them.

I know there are some jerks out there who will read this and scowl at the screen and laugh about how I’m an idiot and ideals like the one I reference in the above image are “stupid”. But get one thing straight, we all love. We all love someone or something. Though we all love different things in different ways, it’s the one thing we all have in common besides our basic necessities for air, water, and food. It’s universal. It IS the end all, be all.

So to keep this from being a novel instead of a simple blog entry I’m going to close with this:

You could never possibly know how a person feels at any given time. You don’t know if they’re going through something tough, have lost a loved one, a friend, or don’t have good self esteem. You don’t know if they’re just hanging on by a hair to their desire to keep going. You know nothing about how the people around you really feel. You can’t feel their emotions as if they were your own. But think about a moment in your life where you felt absolutely devastated by something that happened to you. Think about exactly how you felt down to the last detail. Chances are in the moments in your own life when you felt like you were literally at your lowest point, all you wanted was a kind word, a smile, a hug, or a shoulder to lean on. All you wanted was to feel that someone cared about you. That’s what I want to share here. I want to remind everyone to show the people around you, even strangers, even your enemies, that you care about them. I don’t care how much you think you “hate” someone. Find kindness for them. Keep your words kind, and your actions kinder.

All my love,

-Sami
